In conversation with Cortina

Cortina is a Mexican migrant multidisciplinary artist working across tattooing, muralism, illustration, ceramics, sculpture, recycled mask-making, costume, performance, and graphic design. On the 25th November 2025, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women which is a day of remembrance of all the victims of gender-based violence as well as an international action day, Andreea Zelinka talks with Cortina about the power of art and activism. In her artistic practice, Cortina creates images that are informed by the violent reality of gender-based violence and femicides which serve as political memory, a demand for survival and fuel new imaginaries.
